What happens if you get braces with cavities?

My dentist told me I need braces, but I also have a few cavities. I'm wondering if they'll fix the cavities first, or what happens if you get braces with existing cavities?

Beta, in our days we used to press a clove or apply clove oil to the cavity for temporary relief from pain. But for modern treatments like braces, you must listen to the dentist. Get all the cavities cleared first so your teeth are strong enough for the braces.

I am also planning to get braces soon and I think I might have one or two cavities. Will the dentist do the fillings on the same day, or do we have to wait for the teeth to heal completely before they put the wires?

My mother was saying we can just do some salt water rinses, but my dentist was very clear about this. You absolutely must get the cavities filled before the braces go on. Otherwise, the brackets make it very difficult to clean and the decay will just spread quickly.

Hey, don't stress too much about it! Any good orthodontist will automatically check your teeth and fill up those cavities before starting the braces treatment anyway. It is super common, so just book an appointment and let them handle it.

Haan yaar, cavities toh pehle fill karwani hi padegi, na? If you put braces over cavities, the pain will become really bad later and treating them with all that metal in your mouth is a big headache. Better to get the cleaning and filling done first.
