What happens if you don't have a thyroid?

My mother recently had surgery to remove her thyroid gland. She's now on medication, but I'm curious. What happens to a person's body if they don't have a thyroid at all and are not on medication?

Beta, if the thyroid gland is removed, your body cannot make the essential hormones needed for energy. You must take the prescribed thyroid tablet every morning on an empty stomach. Do not rely on home remedies like coriander water alone for this, as the medicine is life-saving.

Do not worry, beta. My neighbor had her thyroid removed ten years ago, and she just takes her small tablet every morning before her tea. She is perfectly healthy and runs her house easily. Just follow your doctor's words.

When my sister had her thyroid removed, she went through a very rough emotional patch with sudden mood swings and anxiety while they were figuring out her correct dosage. It is completely normal to feel this way, so please give yourself time to adjust.

I was reading about thyroidectomies recently. Apparently, if the gland is removed due to nodules or cancer, patients live a completely normal life just by taking a daily hormone replacement pill. It is quite amazing how modern medicine handles this.

Without a thyroid, your heart rate and blood pressure can fluctuate if you skip your medication. I have high BP and I know how crucial regular medical checkups are. Make sure to get your TSH levels tested every few months to adjust the tablet dosage.

It can feel a bit overwhelming to depend on a pill daily, but it becomes a simple habit. Along with my regular daily tablet, I drink warm coconut water and do light yoga stretches, which keeps my digestion and energy levels very good.
