What happens if you don't get enough sleep?

Due to my job, I often have very late nights and early mornings, so I don't get much sleep. My parents are always scolding me about it. I want to know, what are the long-term effects if you don't get enough sleep regularly?

Haan na, if we don't sleep properly, the whole next day gets ruined. Body feels so heavy and you can't even focus on work. Just try to sleep early today, work will always be there but health is first, you know.

Whenever I get less than six hours of sleep, I notice my digestion gets totally upset and I get very irritated easily. Everyone's body is different, but for me, fixing my sleep time was the only way to feel normal again.

Beta, lack of sleep creates too much 'heat' in the body and causes acidity. Try drinking a glass of warm milk with a little cardomom powder before bed. It gently cools down the system and helps you get a peaceful rest.

My general physician explained that long-term sleep deprivation weakens our immune system and increases the risk of high blood pressure and insulin resistance. He advised me to aim for at least 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep to let the cardiovascular system rest. Don't take sleep lightly.

Chronic lack of sleep can severely affect your hormone levels, including thyroid and cortisol. If you are experiencing constant sleeplessness along with unexplained fatigue, please get a thyroid profile test done and consult your doctor.

You can try simple things like keeping your room cool and having a warm foot soak before bed. But if your sleeplessness is accompanied by breathing issues, high anxiety, or chest discomfort, please do not rely on home tips and see a doctor immediately.
