What happens if u sleep with contacts?

Sometimes after a long day, I just crash and forget to take out my contact lenses. My friend warned me it's very bad. What happens if you sleep with contacts in your eyes? Can it cause permanent damage?

Beta, please don't do this. Sleeping with those plastic lenses in your eyes can cause serious redness and infection. Always take them out before sleeping to keep your eyes safe.

Honestly, after a heavy dinner, I know it is tempting to just crash on the bed. But sleeping with contacts can dry out your eyes and make them feel like sandpaper the next morning. Take them off first, it only takes a minute.

Sleeping with contact lenses greatly reduces the oxygen supply to your cornea, increasing the risk of corneal ulcers and infections. If you accidentally sleep in them, remove them immediately upon waking and use lubricating eye drops.

Eyes are the most delicate part of our body, beta. If they get dry or red because of these lenses, splash them with clean, cold water. But please don't sleep with them; let your eyes breathe naturally at night.

I just started wearing contacts last week and I am so scared of doing this by mistake. If I accidentally sleep in them for just an hour, should I go to the doctor immediately?
