What happens if the liver stops working?

My neighbour's husband has been really unwell lately, and the doctors mentioned his liver is failing. It made me think, what exactly happens to a person if their liver completely stops working? It sounds very serious.

If the liver stops working, it is a very serious medical crisis because the liver filters all toxins from our body. The person will get severe jaundice, confusion, and fluid buildup in the stomach. Please get them to a hospital immediately; they will need emergency medical care.

Complete liver failure requires immediate ICU hospitalization and often a transplant evaluation. Do not try any local powders or home-made juices as they will load the liver even more. Take the patient to a multi-specialty hospital with a good gastroenterology department right away.

Liver failure is extremely dangerous and can lead to rapid organ complications. You must get the patient evaluated by a hepatologist immediately for their safety. Please don't wait for symptoms to worsen.

Honestly, if the liver completely shuts down, it's a straight-up emergency room situation, no jokes. The body can't clear toxins, so the brain gets confused and things go downhill real fast. Get professional medical help immediately.

I was just reading about this the other day out of curiosity. It seems if the liver fails, toxins like ammonia build up in the blood, which can cause hepatic encephalopathy. It is a critical condition that requires continuous medical monitoring.

Listen, if you are asking because someone you know is very sick, please remain calm but act fast. Take them to the nearest big hospital emergency desk. The doctors there know exactly how to manage liver support therapies, and they will guide you step by step.

I have seen a close colleague go through liver issues in our younger days. While it sounds terrifying, modern medicine has excellent treatments and transplant options now. Just make sure to trust qualified doctors and keep your spirits up.
