What happens if kidney stones go untreated?

My colleague has been suffering from really bad flank pain on and off, and he suspects kidney stones. He's trying home remedies instead of seeing a doctor. What happens if kidney stones go untreated for a long time?

Hey, don't stress too much, but don't ignore it either! If kidney stones are left untreated, they can block your urine flow and cause a lot of pain and even infections. Just get an ultrasound done and drink lots of water while keeping your doctor in the loop.

My father had a silent stone that we didn't treat, and it eventually damaged his left kidney's function. The doctors at Aster Medcity told us clearly that even if there is no pain, large stones must be removed or treated. Please consult a proper urologist and ask them for a clear plan of action.

I have both high blood pressure and a history of kidney stones. If you leave stones untreated, they can cause chronic kidney irritation which can actually worsen your blood pressure levels too. Make sure you get regular kidney function tests and keep your salt intake low.

I was recently told I have a small 4mm stone, and I am quite scared about what will happen if it doesn't pass on its own. Does it always require surgery, or can medicines dissolve it slowly? If anyone has faced this, please let me know.

Don't let those tiny stones become a big headache! Untreated stones can grow bigger and cause a sudden, super painful emergency. Drink plenty of coconut water, stay hydrated, and get them checked by a doctor soon.

The pain of a kidney stone attack is so terrifying that it gave me major anxiety for months, constantly worrying about when the next spasm would hit. If you are ignoring it out of fear, please don't. Getting it treated early will save you from that horrific pain and the emotional stress that comes with it.
