What happens if gestational diabetes is not controlled?

My cousin sister is pregnant and has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. She's a bit careless with her diet. I'm really concerned, what happens if gestational diabetes is not controlled properly during pregnancy?

I tried drinking methi water and cutting carbs during my pregnancy, but let me tell you, self-managing is not enough. If ignored, the baby can grow too large, making delivery very difficult. Please work closely with your doctor instead of trying home remedies alone.

Let's be direct: uncontrolled gestational diabetes can lead to premature birth or preeclampsia, which is high blood pressure during pregnancy. It is absolutely not worth the risk for you or the baby. Get a proper diet plan and take insulin if your doctor prescribes it.

Oh my god, I worried so much about this during my second trimester! It can cause the baby to have low blood sugar at birth, which is so scary to think about. Please monitor your blood sugar after every meal and keep your doctor updated to keep your mind at peace.

High sugar levels can affect the baby's growth and create delivery complications. If your gynaecologist permits, a simple 20-minute walk after lunch and dinner can do wonders for insulin sensitivity. Just keep the exercise light and stay hydrated.

I have seen many young mothers in this group deal with this. If not controlled, it increases the risk of a C-section and the baby developing type 2 diabetes later in life. But don't worry, with a proper low-glycemic diet and guidance, most mothers deliver completely healthy babies.

I felt so much guilt when I was diagnosed, thinking I did something wrong to cause it. If left uncontrolled, it can cause the baby to go to the NICU for sugar monitoring, which is emotionally draining for a new mom. Please take care of yourself and follow your doctor's steps, you are doing great.

Uncontrolled gestational diabetes can cause sudden complications, including high BP for the mother. Please get your sugar levels checked regularly and consult your obstetrician immediately. Never ignore any high reading during this crucial phase.
