What happens if a type 2 diabetic stops taking insulin?

My uncle has Type 2 diabetes and he's thinking of stopping his insulin injections because he feels better. I told him that's a bad idea. What happens if a Type 2 diabetic stops taking insulin, especially if they've been on it for a while?

Bhai, insulin bandh karne ki galti kabhi mat karna. My uncle did this without telling anyone and his sugar went so high that we had to rush him to the city hospital in the middle of the night. Please ask your doctor before making any changes.

I completely agree with everyone here. Stopping insulin on your own can cause your blood sugar to go completely out of control, so please talk to your doctor first.

I go to a specialist clinic in Delhi, and my endocrinologist strictly warned me never to skip or stop insulin. Doing so can lead to organ damage or sudden diabetic coma. If you are having issues with your dose, book an appointment and discuss alternative plans with your doctor.

I was actually reading about this yesterday because my aunt wants to stop her insulin. Apparently, if you stop it suddenly, your blood sugar can spike to extreme levels and cause a dangerous condition called DKA. It is definitely not safe to do this on your own.

Stopping insulin suddenly is really risky for your kidneys and eyes in the long run. My mother-in-law wanted to stop hers too, but her doctor explained that insulin helps her body rest. If you want to reduce the dose, work with your doctor to do it safely.

Managing diabetes along with high BP requires strict discipline. If you stop taking insulin, your body's cardiovascular system gets highly stressed due to toxic sugar levels. Please keep checking your levels and consult your doctor for any adjustments.

Just like my thyroid medication, insulin is something your body depends on to function. Stopping it without proper doctor consultation and regular blood sugar tests is very dangerous. Please get your HbA1c checked and let your doctor take the call.
