What happens if a diabetic doesn't take insulin?

My aunt has been a diabetic for many years and sometimes she misses her insulin doses, thinking it won't make much difference. I'm concerned about her health. What happens if a diabetic person doesn't take their insulin?

In my thirty years of managing diabetes, I have seen that skipping insulin is a major risk. Your blood sugar will climb very high, making you feel extremely thirsty, tired, and nauseous. Do not play with your doses; consistency is what keeps us healthy in the long run.

Beta, home remedies like jamun seeds or methi water can help support your health, but they can never replace insulin. If your doctor has prescribed insulin, your body absolutely needs it to survive. Please do not skip it, as it can cause serious harm to your organs.

Without insulin, your blood sugar levels will spike uncontrollably, potentially leading to a coma or organ failure. It is a critical hormone that your body is lacking. If you are struggling with the dosage or side effects, discuss it with your endocrinologist immediately.

I was researching this online and apparently, without insulin, glucose cannot enter your cells for energy. So your body starts breaking down fats too quickly, releasing toxic ketones into the blood. It sounds like a serious medical crisis that needs immediate attention.

My cousin skipped his insulin for a couple of days thinking he could manage with diet, and he ended up in the hospital with severe dehydration and vomiting. It is extremely dangerous because your body can develop ketoacidosis. Always take your dose on time.

Skipping insulin can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a life-threatening emergency. If you have missed a dose or are feeling very unwell, please check your blood sugar levels immediately and contact your doctor or go to a clinic for safety.
