What foods to eat for cirrhosis of the liver?

My husband has been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, and the doctors have given us a long list of instructions. We're trying to figure out the best diet for him. What foods are recommended to help support his liver?

Cirrhosis is quite serious yaar, you can't just eat random things. Actually, my uncle had this and the doctor strictly told him to cut down on salt to avoid swelling. Focus on light, home-cooked food and keep oil to a absolute minimum.

You have to be extremely careful with foods that load the liver with toxins. Clean, simple vegetarian food like boiled bottle gourd (lauki), papaya, and easily digestible khichdi are gentle on the system. Absolutely avoid any outside food, excess salt, or spicy items.

For liver health, keeping track of your daily sodium intake is crucial, ideally keeping it under 2000mg. You should focus on high-quality lean proteins and complex carbs, but only after checking with your doctor. Tracking apps can really help you monitor how much salt is hiding in your daily food.

I have seen many people struggling with liver issues in this group. The most important thing is to eat small, frequent meals instead of three heavy ones because the liver gets tired easily. Keep your diet very simple, drink clean water, and strictly follow whatever medicine your doctor has prescribed.

Diet for cirrhosis can be very tricky because the liver is already compromised and cannot process proteins and toxins normally. While eating fresh fruits and easily digestible grains helps, please consult a clinical nutritionist or your hepatologist. Self-managing this can lead to serious complications.
