What foods give you diabetes?

My mother recently got diagnosed with pre-diabetes, and we're trying to adjust her diet. We want to be very careful. What kind of foods are known to lead to diabetes?

If I had a rupee for every time someone told me 'sugar se diabetes hoti hai,' I'd be rich enough to hire a personal chef to force-feed me karela. Jokes aside, it's not just one food. It's a combination of too much sugar, refined carbs, unhealthy fats, and a sedentary lifestyle over a long time. Basically, all the tasty stuff.

Beta, earlier people didn't have so much sugar and white flour. Now everything has added sugar. Eating too much मीठा (sweet), white bread, and fried things is not good. My nani used to say, 'Limit processed foods and eat your seasonal fruits in moderation.' Karela juice is often talked about, but for proper diagnosis, see a doctor.

It's not that specific foods *give* you diabetes directly, but rather a long-term diet high in refined carbohydrates, added sugars, and unhealthy fats can increase your risk significantly. Foods like white bread, sugary drinks, sweets, and highly processed snacks are often linked. A balanced diet with whole grains, plenty of vegetables, and good fats is key for prevention.

Generally, foods very high in sugar and refined carbohydrates are the ones to be mindful of. Things like sugary drinks, sweets, and white bread in large quantities can increase risk over time. Eating a balanced diet helps a lot.

Basically, any food that tastes really, really good? Kidding! But seriously, it's mostly about too much processed sugar, white flour stuff like maida, and sugary drinks. If it comes in a colorful packet and makes you feel instantly happy, it's probably not doing your pancreas any favors. My sweet tooth is crying as I type this.

Oh, I worry about this all the time! I'm constantly checking food labels. From what I've researched, it's really the consistently high intake of sugary drinks, white rice, maida-based items, and junk food that increases the risk. It's not one cheat meal, but the overall pattern. Try to eat whole, unprocessed foods as much as possible.

Don't fret too much, it's a common concern these days. It's not one single food, but a pattern of eating too many refined carbs and sugars consistently. Our traditional Indian diet, if eaten balanced with millets and whole grains, is usually good. Just avoid excessive sweets and highly processed snacks, that's what I've learned over the years.

I totally get why you're asking this, it's a big concern for many. It's not typically one food that causes diabetes, but a pattern of diet. High intake of refined sugars, processed carbs (like white bread, pastries), and excessive unhealthy fats over time can contribute to insulin resistance. Balance is key, not deprivation.
