What does pregnancy pee smell like?

I'm pregnant, and I've noticed a distinct change in how my pee smells lately. It's different from how it used to be. Is this a normal pregnancy symptom? What does pregnancy pee usually smell like?

It often has a much stronger, more pungent ammonia smell than usual, partly because our sense of smell becomes super sensitive. My daughter had this during her pregnancy, and the doctor advised her to drink at least 3 liters of water daily. If it smells foul or burns, please get a urine culture done.

It can smell quite strong or sweetish, mostly because of pregnancy hormones and mild dehydration. Don't worry too much, but make sure you are flushing out your system with plenty of water. If you feel any burning sensation, let's get it checked by your doctor immediately to rule out any infection.

The heat in the body increases during pregnancy, making the urine smell stronger and look darker. In our family, we suggest drinking fresh coconut water or barley water in the morning to cool the system. But if there is any pain or itching, you must visit your doctor.

My wife’s urine has a very strong, pungent smell lately, even though she is drinking water. I am a bit worried if this is a sign of an infection or if it's just a normal pregnancy change. Has anyone else noticed this in the first trimester?

Honestly, don't rely on online forums to tell you if your urine smell is safe or not. A strong smell could simply be mild dehydration, or it could be a urinary tract infection (UTI) which is very common in pregnancy. Get a simple urine routine test done and show the report to your doctor.

I totally get it, every little change during pregnancy makes us worry and wonder if it's normal. The smell is usually just more concentrated and sharp, which stands out because your nose is extra sensitive now. Just focus on drinking more water and stay relaxed.

It can have a stronger, heavier scent as your body filters out more waste to protect the life growing inside. Keep your mind peaceful and drink pure, clean water throughout the day to help your body cleanse itself naturally.
