What does pcos facial hair look like?

I've noticed some unusual hair growth on my face and I'm concerned it might be related to PCOS. What does PCOS facial hair look like? Is it typically thick or dark?

It usually looks like thick, coarse dark hair on the chin, upper lip, or jawline, almost like male pattern hair growth. I have thyroid issues which also cause hormonal shifts, so I always recommend getting your complete hormone panel tested. Regular follow-ups with your doctor are very important to track if the treatment is working.

For me, it started with just a few stiff hairs on my chin that I kept threading and ignoring, thinking it was just a cosmetic issue. I really regret not visiting a gynecologist sooner because it was actually a sign of rising androgen levels. Please get a proper hormonal checkup done instead of just visiting the salon.

It's usually stiff, dark hair that grows rapidly on the face due to hormonal surges. Along with medical treatment, keeping insulin levels stable through a balanced diet can help reduce these surges. I focus on high-fiber foods and seeds, but always discuss with a doctor before making major dietary changes.

My doctor explained that this condition is called hirsutism, which is triggered by excess male hormones like testosterone in the body. The hair is usually thicker and darker than normal peach fuzz, mostly showing up on the chin, chest, or stomach. She advised that topical treatments only work temporarily unless we balance the internal hormones first.

It is basically terminal hair—which means it is thick, pigmented, and coarse, unlike the soft vellus hair we usually have on our faces. Laser or waxing can help manage the look, but to actually reduce the growth, you have to treat the underlying hormonal imbalance. Speak to your doctor about anti-androgen options if it is bothersome.

I used to get very thick chin hair that left dark marks after plucking. Since my PCOS got under control with lifestyle changes and medication, the hair growth has actually slowed down and become much softer. It takes time, so be patient with your body.
