What causes vaginal cancer?

My friend's mother-in-law was diagnosed with something called vaginal cancer, which I had never even heard of before. It sounds very rare. Could you tell me what causes vaginal cancer?

Maintaining basic hygiene and a healthy diet is good for down-there health. However, vaginal cancer is a serious medical issue, often linked to HPV infection. Do not try any home remedies for this; please consult a gynecologist for proper testing.

Yes, chronic HPV infection and smoking are major risk factors. Getting the HPV vaccine and regular Pap smears are the best ways to stay safe.

Reading about these cancers online is enough to make my blood pressure shoot up. It's usually rare and mostly linked to HPV, but at our age, every minor itch makes us worry. Let's just leave the diagnosis to the doctors and enjoy our tea.

I went through a massive panic spiral last year over some abnormal spotting, thinking the absolute worst. It turned out to be a minor vaginal infection that cleared up with simple cream. Take a deep breath, vaginal cancer is quite rare, but do see your doctor to clear your doubts.

Look, vaginal cancer is rare, but things like HPV or even age can cause it. Don't feel shy or sit at home if you notice any unusual bleeding or discharge. Go straight to a gynaecologist and get a checkup done, health comes first.
