What causes sudden weight gain?

My clothes are feeling tighter lately, and I've noticed I've put on weight very quickly, like 3-4 kgs in a month. I haven't changed my diet or exercise much. What can lead to sudden weight gain like this?

For me, sudden weight gain was a big wake-up call last year. I was eating the same but the scale kept going up, and later I found out it was due to high stress levels affecting my metabolism. I can't say what's causing it for you, but getting a full body checkup is the best starting point.

My teenager suddenly gained almost 6 kgs in a few months without any major diet change. We got worried and took them to a pediatrician, who diagnosed a mild thyroid imbalance. Please get a simple blood test done for them, it helps clear the doubt quickly.

I dealt with sudden weight gain and learned that fluid retention or hormonal changes are usually the culprits. First, track your salt intake and get your thyroid and HbA1c levels tested. Don't go on any crash diets right now, just focus on clean eating and consult a doctor first.

Sudden weight gain often happens when our body's internal balance is disturbed due to stress or poor sleep. Gentle pranayama like Anulom Vilom daily can help regulate stress hormones. Please consult a physician first to rule out any medical conditions before starting any routine.

I panicked like crazy when I put on 4 kgs in two weeks, thinking it was something very serious. Turns out it was just heavy water retention and PMS bloating because of a delayed cycle. It normalized on its own, so don't lose sleep over it, but do consult a doctor if it persists.

My grandmother told me to drink warm water with cumin to reduce bloat when I put on weight suddenly. While those traditional ideas are comforting, I went to our family doctor and did a blood test to be safe. It is always better to get a medical opinion for sudden changes.

I totally get it, seeing the scale jump up suddenly is so frustrating and stressful. It makes you question everything you are eating! Just know that it is often a temporary hormonal thing or water weight, so please don't stress and get a quick checkup done.

Before spending too much money on expensive diet plans, check your daily routine. Are you sitting all day at work or sleeping very late? Try to walk 8,000 steps daily and cut down on tea/coffee sugar for a week, and if that doesn't help, go visit a local clinic.
