What causes patches of hair loss?

My hair has started falling out in small patches, mostly on my scalp, and it's quite noticeable. It's making me really self-conscious. What could be causing these specific patches of hair loss?

I know exactly how terrifying it is to wake up and see smooth patches of hair missing on your scalp, it literally ruins your mental peace. For me, it was Alopecia Areata, which is an autoimmune reaction often triggered by extreme stress. Please don't panic, it is highly treatable, so do visit a dermatologist.

Patchy hair loss can happen due to fungal infections like ringworm or sometimes nutritional deficiencies like low Vitamin D and B12. Before buying expensive hair oils and shampoos, get a basic blood test done and consult a skin specialist who can give you the right ointment.

At my age, hair leaving my head is a daily event, but round patches are usually a different ball game. It could be alopecia or even some scalp infection. Save your money on those magic onion oils from the internet and let a proper skin doctor have a look.

Don't lose hope, hair can absolutely grow back! Patchy hair loss is often just alopecia areata, where your immune system gets a bit confused and attacks your hair follicles. A dermatologist can easily help with some topical solutions or simple treatments.

Please don't start rubbing garlic, raw ginger, or random herbal pastes on those hairless patches, as it can cause severe chemical burns and permanent damage to the follicles. Patchy hair loss has specific medical causes like autoimmune issues or fungal infections. Get it evaluated by a certified dermatologist.

With my PCOS, I struggle with hair thinning, but completely smooth patches are usually a sign of Alopecia Areata or a localized scalp infection. It is best not to self-diagnose. Please see a dermatologist who can guide you on the exact cause and safe treatment options.
