What causes nausea and vomiting in pregnancy?

I'm pregnant with my first child and the nausea and vomiting are making it really hard to eat. My doctor said it's common. What exactly causes this feeling of sickness and throwing up when you're pregnant?

Hey, it's very common, almost all pregnant women experience some form of it. Don't stress too much. It's mostly due to the hormonal shifts and your body adjusting. Just try to eat small, frequent meals and stay hydrated. If it's too severe or you can't keep anything down, please consult your doctor immediately.

Oh, I totally get it, pregnancy nausea is the absolute worst. It's mainly because of the huge hormonal changes happening, especially the rise in hCG and estrogen. Your body is basically building a whole new human! Keep your doctor in the loop about how you're feeling, they can often suggest safe ways to cope.

My wife had this super bad in her first trimester. Like, every morning. Doc said it's just 'morning sickness' because of all the hormones. She mostly just ate dry toast and ginger biscuits to manage. It eventually passed after a few months. So, pretty normal stuff, but still tough.

Oh, the dreaded pregnancy nausea! I went through it with both my kids. What really helped me was keeping some dry crackers next to my bed and eating a few before even getting up. Also, lots of small meals and avoiding anything too spicy or oily. Try some ginger candies too, they sometimes help to settle the stomach. And definitely talk to your doctor for other options if it's severe.

Is it true that if you have more nausea, it means a healthier baby? I heard that somewhere, but I'm not sure. I hope you're feeling okay. Hormones are usually the reason, I think.
