What causes exhaustion in pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester, and I feel absolutely drained all the time, even after sleeping for hours. Everyone says it's normal to be tired, but this feels like extreme exhaustion. What typically causes such deep fatigue during pregnancy?

My obstetrician at the hospital explained that the massive surge in progesterone during the first trimester causes extreme fatigue. Please mention this clearly during your regular checkup so they can check your hemoglobin and thyroid levels to rule out anemia.

My wife is currently in her second month and she is literally exhausted all day. The doctor told us her body is working double-time to build the placenta and her blood volume is increasing, which takes a massive toll on energy.

Honestly, the constant nausea made me skip meals, which left me with zero energy in the first trimester. Once I started eating small, frequent snacks like roasted makhana and coconut water, my energy levels improved a lot.

Beti, pregnancy me sharir ke andar ek naya jeevan ban raha hai, toh thakan hona toh bilkul swabhavik hai. Aap thoda dahi, doodh aur hara saag acche se khao aur jitna ho sake dopahar ko thoda aaram karo.

My elder sister is pregnant and she sleeps almost 12 hours a day now. It is totally wild how much energy the body needs just to grow a baby, she is always tired even after doing nothing.

Please don't worry, your body is doing some very heavy work right now. Take as much rest as you can and let your family help you with the daily chores.
