What causes chemical pregnancy?

I recently had a positive pregnancy test, but then my period started a few days later, and the doctor said it was a 'chemical pregnancy'. It was very confusing and upsetting. What causes something like that to happen?

A chemical pregnancy is basically a very early miscarriage that happens shortly after implantation, often caused by chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo. It is extremely common and usually doesn't mean you can't have a healthy pregnancy later. Please stay positive and consult your gynecologist to plan your next steps.

I just experienced this after a positive home test and then my period came, which has made me feel so anxious and heartbroken. Did anyone else go through this, and how long did you wait before trying again with your doctor's advice?

I went through two chemical pregnancies before having my healthy baby, so please do not lose hope. They are almost always due to random chromosomal issues in the egg or sperm, which is nature's way of stopping a non-viable pregnancy. Focus on your health, take your prenatal vitamins, and let a trusted doctor monitor you.

For early pregnancy evaluation, doing a quantitative Beta HCG blood test twice is much more reliable than buying multiple home urine kits, and it costs around 500-800 rupees. If you experience repeat occurrences, planning a budget for genetic screenings or hormone tests with your specialist is a practical way forward.

Our elders always advised resting and eating traditional warming foods, but medically, an early chemical pregnancy is usually due to chromosomal mismatch. It is a natural process of the body, so there is no need to blame yourself. Please visit your gynecologist to get a proper checkup and reassure yourselves.
