From my experience, my doctor only allowed very mild things for cough during pregnancy. I mostly relied on home remedies. Warm water with honey and ginger helped me a lot. Also, steam inhalation eased my throat. Never took any cough syrup without checking first.
Oh, I just went through this! My cough was so bad. My gynaec recommended a simple honey-based cough syrup, but only a specific brand. Otherwise, she said lots of steam, warm water sips, and haldi doodh. The haldi doodh actually helped a lot with the throat irritation.
Don't worry too much about a cough, it's common. Just stick to gentle things. Warm salt water gargles can soothe your throat. Honey mixed with a little ginger juice is also a good old remedy. If it's persistent or severe, then definitely talk to your gynecologist, they'll know best what's safe.
My older sister just had her baby, and she had a cough. She basically just did steam and drank so much warm water. Her doc said most cough syrups are a no-go. So yeah, home remedies are your best bet. And obviously, ask your own doctor!

Haan, cough during pregnancy is super annoying. My wife had it. Our doctor said no strong medicines. Only steam inhalation, like 3-4 times a day. And warm water with honey and tulsi leaves. That helped a lot, na. For severe cough, ask your gynaec, they might prescribe a very mild syrup.
