What can i take during pregnancy for heartburn?

I'm in my second trimester and have been getting really bad heartburn lately, especially after meals. My doctor said to be careful what I take. What can I take during pregnancy that's safe for heartburn?

Heartburn in pregnancy is quite common, I hear. For me, because I have thyroid issues, I always ask my doctor before taking anything. Maybe start by trying smaller, more frequent meals and avoiding spicy or greasy foods. Definitely check with your Gynae before taking any antacids.

Oh, is heartburn very common in pregnancy? I'm due soon and I'm a bit worried about everything. Maybe a glass of milk helps? Or should I ask my doctor right away if it starts?

As someone managing diabetes, I'm always super careful with what I consume, especially now that I'm pregnant. For heartburn, my doctor suggested plain milk or small sips of buttermilk. She said to avoid anything sugary, even some antacids can have sugar. Always check with your doctor, even for simple things.

Pregnancy is a delicate time, so please don't take anything without your doctor's explicit approval. What's safe for one might not be for another. Call your gynecologist and ask what they recommend for heartburn. It's always best to be safe than sorry.

I totally get how miserable pregnancy heartburn can be! Many doctors recommend Tums or Gaviscon as they are generally considered safe. But please, always confirm with your own gynecologist first. Also, try eating smaller meals and avoiding lying down immediately after eating.
