What are the symptoms of arthritis in the hands?

Lately, my hands have been feeling stiff and painful, especially my knuckles. My grandmother always talks about her 'arthritis in the hands', so I'm wondering what are the typical symptoms for that condition.

I freaked out when my finger joints started feeling stiff and swollen every morning, thinking my hands were going to get deformed! But my doctor did an RA test, which was negative, and suggested simple hand exercises and warm water soaks. It's totally manageable, so don't worry.

Let us keep a positive outlook; joint wear and tear is a natural part of life's journey. Hand arthritis can cause swelling in the finger knuckles and difficulty in gripping things. Take care of your hands with warm salt-water baths and let a doctor guide your healing process.

Arthritis in the hands usually brings morning stiffness and pain at the base of the thumb. Doing gentle finger stretches, clenching your fist loosely, and warm oil self-massages can bring wonderful relief. Do consult your doctor first to check if there is any active inflammation.

My fingers have been feeling a bit stiff lately when I wake up, and my knuckles look slightly swollen. Is this how hand arthritis usually begins, or can it just be due to typing too much on my laptop? I am a bit hesitant to go to a clinic.

Stiffness in finger joints, swelling, and a dull ache at the base of your thumb are classic signs of hand arthritis. Please consult an orthopedic doctor for an X-ray.
