What are pregnancy cravings?

I just found out I'm pregnant and suddenly I'm craving the strangest things! My friends are calling them 'pregnancy cravings'. What exactly are these, and why do they happen?

Honestly, cravings are just intense urges to eat specific things like pickles, sweets, or even spicy chat. Because of my thyroid issues, my doctor made sure we did regular blood tests to check my nutrient levels when I craved weird things. Always safe to keep your doctor updated and track your levels regularly.

During my months, I just wanted to eat raw mangoes with salt and cold ice cream at 2 AM. I can't say why it happens scientifically, but it felt like my body was just demanding whatever it wanted right then. My husband had to run to the local store so many times.

Dealing with PCOS made me super cautious about what I ate, so when the sudden sugar cravings hit during pregnancy, I got really worried. I didn't want to mess up my insulin, so I tried swapping milk chocolate for apple slices with peanut butter. It is tough to manage, but please don't be too hard on yourself.

It is just your body's natural way of telling you it needs some extra energy or comfort. Don't stress too much about why it is happening. Just try to enjoy this special time and eat healthy when you can.

My wife had crazy cravings for spicy tamarind and ice water, so we actually researched this quite a bit. Our gynaecologist explained that hormonal surges change your taste and smell senses completely, and sometimes it is just your body looking for quick calories. She advised us not to suppress it completely but to keep the portions in control.

In our days, we didn't have so many theories, we just called it 'dohale' or natural desires of the mother. I remember desperately wanting spicy lemon pickle with hot rice every single afternoon. It is a beautiful phase and passes quickly, so eat happily and take care of your health.
