What are baby sleep routines?

My baby is 4 months old and her sleep is very irregular, which makes me very tired. My mother-in-law said I should try setting a routine for her. What are some common baby sleep routines that actually work?

I totally understand how overwhelming this can be, as sleep deprivation makes you feel so anxious and lost. For babies, a routine is just doing the same things like warm bath, massage, and feeding in the exact same order every night. It takes time but hang in there, your peace of mind will return.

A warm oil massage before the evening bath works wonders to make babies sleepy. You can also try dimming all the lights in the house by 7 PM. But if the baby is crying constantly and not sleeping at all due to colic or pain, please let your pediatrician check once.

Honestly, you don't need to buy expensive sleep swaddles, fancy cribs, or paid sleep consultant apps. Just use simple cotton sheets to wrap them comfortably, keep the room temperature normal, and follow a basic timing. Save that money for their regular vaccinations and diaper budgets instead.

Oh, the sleep struggle is so real! With my daughter, what worked was making the room completely dark and playing soft white noise or lullabies. Don't expect magic in one day, it takes about two weeks of doing the same thing daily for them to get the hint.

My wife and I realized that fixing the feeding times was key to our baby's sleep routine. Make sure the baby is full but not overfed right before sleeping. Just like we manage our diet patterns, keeping a consistent gap between their final evening feed and bed helps their tiny tummies digest better.
