What age is geriatric pregnancy?

I'm 32 and planning my first child, and my mother-in-law keeps hinting about 'geriatric pregnancy' if I wait too long. I want to know, what age is actually considered a geriatric pregnancy?

Calling a 35-year-old 'geriatric' is quite funny when I feel like a senior citizen myself at 52! But medically, yes, 35 is the magic number where they start adding extra stamps on your file.

The medical world terms age 35 and above as geriatric. In my view, regular light pranayama and keeping the mind calm can help the body adapt beautifully, irrespective of the age label.

Medically, 'geriatric pregnancy' or advanced maternal age refers to pregnancy in women aged 35 or older. My wife's obstetrician explained that this is because certain chromosomal risks and gestational complications rise after this threshold.

Eating iron-rich home foods like spinach and beetroot is wonderful if you are planning after 35. However, since it is a mature pregnancy, regular clinical checkups are absolutely necessary for safety.

Don't stress too much about that ancient-sounding word! It just means you are 35 or older. So many of my friends have had beautiful, healthy babies at 37 and 38 without any issues.

I was 36 when I had my daughter. The doctors used that clinical term, but with proper folic acid supplements and routine scans, everything went very smoothly for us.
