Is weight gain a side effect of gabapentin?

My doctor prescribed gabapentin for my nerve pain a few months ago, and I've noticed I'm gaining weight since then. I'm wondering if this medicine could be the reason behind it. It's really bothering me.

I totally get it, seeing the scale go up when you are already dealing with pain is so frustrating. Yes, gabapentin can unfortunately cause weight gain and increased appetite for many people. Please be gentle with yourself and discuss this side effect with your doctor.

I ignored rapid swelling and weight gain when I started a new medication, thinking it was normal, and it messed up my health. Gabapentin can definitely cause fluid retention and weight gain. Please go get a proper checkup done with your prescribing doctor right away.

Gabapentin is known to increase cravings, which can lead to weight gain. I advise focusing on fiber-rich vegetarian food like raw cucumber, sprouts, and clear soups to keep yourself full without extra calories. Do check with your doctor for managing these cravings.

Yes, weight gain and water retention are documented side effects of gabapentin. It often increases appetite or causes mild swelling in the limbs. Rather than adjusting your dose yourself, it is highly recommended to seek your doctor's advice for a solution.

I completely understand how anxious it makes you feel when your body starts changing due to a medicine. Yes, gabapentin can cause weight gain and bloating, which is very common. Just know you are not alone, and your doctor can easily help you manage or switch it.
