Is walking good for arthritis in the knee?

I have arthritis in my knees and sometimes they really hurt. My family tells me to keep moving, but I'm scared it will cause more pain. Is walking good for arthritis specifically in the knee, or should I avoid it?

Haan na, knee pain can be so troublesome, but complete bed rest makes it even more stiff. Slowly walking on a flat path really helps to keep the joint warm and active. Just don't walk on steep slopes or stairs too much.

Walking is a great free exercise, so you don't have to spend on expensive gym memberships or physiotherapy sessions initially. However, do invest in a decent pair of walking shoes to save yourself from knee damage. If the pain gets bad, get an X-ray first before spending on costly treatments.

I don't have arthritis, but with my PCOS, carrying extra weight used to stress my knees a lot. Gentle walking on flat ground helped me stay active without hurting my joints. Please be gentle on yourself and consult your doctor to see what intensity is safe for your stage of arthritis.

Absolutely, it keeps the synovial fluid flowing which lubricates the joint. But if you have grade 3 or 4 osteoarthritis, walking long distances can worsen it. Better get an orthopedic consultation to understand your knee's exact condition before starting a routine.

I totally get it, the constant dull ache in the knees makes you want to avoid moving at all. But honestly, walking a little bit every morning actually helped me feel lighter and reduced the daily stiffness. Just take very small steps and go slow.
