Is the first period after pregnancy heavy?
I recently had my baby, and my first period after delivery just started. It feels really heavy compared to before. Is this normal, or should I be worried, doc?

Oh my goodness, I completely relate to this worry! I spent weeks fretting about my first period after delivery. It can definitely be heavier, and sometimes really painful too. Just keep track of everything and if it feels too much, please call your gynae!
Haan, it's quite common for the first period after pregnancy to be heavy. My wife had it the same way. The body is adjusting, so give it some time. If you're soaking through pads too fast or feeling very weak, then surely check with the doctor.
Heavy periods can sometimes lead to low iron, so maybe keep an eye on that. If you feel very tired, getting a basic blood test (CBC) for anaemia might be useful. It's not usually very expensive, and you can get it done at any lab.
Many women experience this, don't worry too much. My mother-in-law used to suggest eating more iron-rich foods like jaggery and spinach during that time. It might help with energy levels. But for any excessive bleeding, a doctor's visit is a must.
