Is sugar alcohol bad for diabetics?

I'm diabetic and trying to cut down on sugar. I see 'sugar alcohol' listed in some foods. Are sugar alcohols bad for diabetics, or can I have them in moderation?

Sugar alcohols like erythritol or xylitol are generally better than normal sugar, but they can sometimes cause gas or stomach upset. For severe diabetic symptoms or high fasting sugars, please consult your doctor instead of just switching sweeteners.

I tried some sugar-free sweets made with maltitol and my blood sugar actually spiked a little bit. Has anyone else noticed their glucose levels rising after eating sugar alcohols, or is it just my body reacting weirdly?

Sugar alcohols have fewer calories and a lower glycemic index than regular sugar, so they are generally safe. However, you should track them in your food diary because some of them, like maltitol, can still affect your insulin response.

Despite the name, sugar alcohol won't get you drunk, but eating too many sugar-free candies made with it might keep you running to the washroom! It is safe for diabetics, just don't go wild on the portions.

Ye jo sugar alcohol hoti hai, isse khoon mein meetha turant nahi badhta. Par dhyan rakhein ki isse pet kharab ho sakta hai agar zyada kha liya toh. Thoda sambhal kar hi istemal karein.
