Is spirulina safe for thyroid patients?

My wife has a thyroid condition, and she's been looking into various health supplements. We came across spirulina, and it sounds very healthy. Is spirulina generally considered safe for people with thyroid problems?

My family elders always say natural herbs are safe, but when I asked my endocrinologist about spirulina, he strongly advised against it. Since it contains high amounts of iodine, it can fluctuate your TSH. Trust your doctor on this one.

Honestly, with a busy schedule, you don't want to mess up your thyroid levels and feel fatigued. Spirulina has a lot of iodine, which can be highly reactive for thyroid patients. Just stick to your daily medicine and avoid these supplements.

I have been managing my hypothyroid for 20 years now. I tried spirulina once and it actually messed up my test reports. Take it from my experience, simple home food and daily thyroxine are all you need to stay healthy.

I see this question a lot here! Generally, because of the high iodine and risk of triggering autoimmune responses, spirulina is not considered very safe for thyroid patients. Always get your thyroid profile checked before adding new supplements.

I track my macros and thyroid levels on my fitness apps regularly. Spirulina has immune-stimulating properties which can interfere with autoimmune thyroid conditions like Hashimoto's. It is definitely safer to skip it.
