Is smoked salmon ok for pregnancy?

My friend who just had a baby was talking about what she could and couldn't eat during pregnancy. I'm hoping to conceive soon, and I wanted to know if smoked salmon is okay to eat while pregnant? I really enjoy it.

During my pregnancy, I had severe food-borne issues because I wasn't careful about semi-cooked foods, and it was a very scary experience. Smoked salmon can sometimes carry listeria bacteria if it is cold-smoked and not cooked through. Please be extremely cautious and ask your obstetrician before eating any smoked or raw fish.

Generally, cold-smoked salmon is considered risky during pregnancy due to the risk of listeria, which can be dangerous for the baby. If you really want to eat it, make sure it is hot-smoked and cooked until steaming hot, or check with your doctor first for safety guidelines.

Salmon has excellent omega-3 fats which are great for baby's brain development, but the smoking process doesn't always kill harmful bacteria. If you are pregnant, I'd suggest getting your healthy fats from thoroughly cooked fresh fish or walnuts and chia seeds instead to keep things safe.

Do not trust random advice on pregnancy forums about what is safe to eat. Smoked fish can carry bacteria that are dangerous for pregnant women, so verify this directly with your gynecologist before consuming it. Your doctor knows your health history best.

Dealing with hormonal health has made me realize how sensitive our bodies can be, especially during pregnancy. Since smoked fish carries a risk of infection that could affect the pregnancy, it's safer to avoid cold-smoked varieties. Try to stick to fully cooked meals to be on the safe side.

Cold-smoked salmon is generally not recommended during pregnancy because of the risk of listeria. It is safer to eat only fully cooked fish.

Listen to me, don't take any unnecessary risks right now during this precious time. Cold-smoked salmon is raw and can have bacteria that aren't good for your pregnancy. Just stick to well-cooked fish and hot meals for a few months, your baby's health is the absolute priority.

Instead of buying expensive imported smoked salmon which might have stayed in the freezer for long, it's much safer and cheaper to buy fresh local fish. Just cook it thoroughly at home with turmeric and light spices. It satisfies the fish craving and is completely safe for the baby.
