Is rem or deep sleep better?

I've been tracking my sleep with an app and it shows different stages like REM and deep sleep. I'm trying to figure out which one is more important for feeling rested and refreshed. Is REM or deep sleep better for overall health?

You cannot say one is better than the other because both have distinct functions. My physician explained that deep sleep is essential for physical recovery and tissue repair, while REM sleep is crucial for memory consolidation and emotional health. Your body naturally balances both during a healthy sleep cycle.

It is like asking if Biryani is better or Gulab Jamun! Both are amazing in their own way. Deep sleep physically recharges you so you don't feel like a zombie, and REM sleep is when you dream about all the delicious food you want to eat the next day.

Both are important, so we shouldn't worry about measuring them too much. Just focus on sleeping at the same time every day and keeping your room quiet. Simple habits like switching off the TV an hour before bed will automatically improve both REM and deep sleep.

Both are equally necessary for a healthy life, beta. In our traditional way, we say a peaceful mind leads to a sound body. To get both types of good sleep, try massaging your soles with warm mustard oil before sleeping, it calms the nervous system naturally.

Hey, don't stress too much about tracking every single minute of your sleep phases! Both are super important for you—one is for the body and one is for the brain. Just focus on getting 7-8 hours of total sleep and let your body handle the rest.

Honestly, I just need any sleep at this point with my college schedule! But seriously, my psychology professor told us they do different things—deep sleep fixes your tired muscles, and REM helps you actually remember what you studied for exams.

Both stages are critical for your health. Deep sleep helps heal your body, and REM sleep handles your brain power. Eating a light, easily digestible vegetarian dinner at least two hours before sleeping helps your body transition smoothly into both these deep stages.
