Is nasal congestion a sign of pregnancy?

I've been having a stuffy nose for a few days, and my period is also late. Someone mentioned that nasal congestion can be a sign of pregnancy. Is this true?

Haan, actually it can be a sign, na! It is called pregnancy rhinitis because hormonal changes increase blood flow to the nasal passages and cause swelling. But to be sure, just do a home pregnancy test after your missed period.

Nasal congestion can occur due to various reasons like viral infections, allergies, or hormonal changes during pregnancy. To be safe and certain, you should take a urine pregnancy test and consult your doctor for a proper diagnosis.

When my wife was pregnant, she complained of a blocked nose for months, and I thought it was just the dusty Delhi weather. Turns out it's a real biological thing! Pregnancy sure has some very strange symptoms.

I was reading about this recently and was surprised to find that estrogen spikes during pregnancy can cause the nasal membranes to swell up. So yes, it is a lesser-known early sign, though it could also just be a normal seasonal allergy or cold.

Yes, many young mothers get a blocked nose or mild cold in the early days because of the changes in the body. Drink warm ginger tea and do some steam inhalation, it will give you good comfort. God bless you.
