Is kidney pain lower or upper back?

I've been having some back pain for a few days, and a friend suggested it could be kidney related. I'm trying to understand if kidney pain typically occurs in the lower back or higher up. Where exactly should I look for the pain?

I just recovered from a kidney infection, and the pain was definitely in my mid-to-upper back, right under the rib cage, not the lower back. I initially thought it was a gym muscle pull, but when the fever started, I realized it was the kidneys. Glad I got treated in time.

I tried hot water bags and various herbal oils thinking it was lower back muscle pain, but nothing worked. Later, the doctor told me kidney pain is higher up, under the rib cage, and home remedies won't cure a kidney infection or stone. Save your time and get a proper diagnosis.

Instead of guessing if it is upper or lower back pain, it is cheaper to get a simple urine routine test and a basic abdominal ultrasound. It costs around 1000-1500 rupees in most local labs and saves you from buying expensive, unnecessary back pain belts or wrong painkillers.

Please do not ignore pain that is located in the mid-to-upper back area. I once delayed consulting a doctor thinking it was just a normal muscle catch, and it turned into a severe kidney infection that required hospitalization. Please get a professional medical opinion as soon as possible.

At my age, my back hurts everywhere, but kidney pain is typically in the upper-to-middle back area. If it is lower back, it is usually my sofa's fault or bad posture. If the pain is deep and accompanied by weird urine colors, then it is definitely time to visit the doctor.

Drinking barley water and warm water can help soothe minor urinary tract issues. But remember, if the pain is high up in the back near the ribs and feels very deep, it could be a kidney issue. Don't rely on home remedies for deep organ pain; see a doctor immediately.

While you check if the pain is in the mid-back under the rib cage, please also check your daily diet. High sodium and low water intake often cause these issues. Avoid spinach, tomatoes, and excess salt for a few days to see if it helps, but definitely consult a doctor.

Look, simple back pain from sitting too much is usually in the lower back. Kidney pain is higher up, under your ribs, and it won't go away just by changing your posture. Don't assume anything, just go to a doctor and get an ultrasound done.
