Is it possible to have menses during pregnancy?

My sister is pregnant for the first time, and she's had some light bleeding this month around the time her period would normally be due. She's really scared. Is it possible to have menses, or period-like bleeding, during pregnancy?

Nahi beta, jab garbh thehar jata hai toh menses nahi aate hain. Agar khoon dikhe toh woh menses nahi hota, kuch aur dikkat ho sakti hai. Hamesha doctor ko dikhana chahiye. Apne ghar mein kabhi aisa nahi hua.

Menses during pregnancy? My brain is too tired to compute! But no, not actual periods. Your body stops that when you're pregnant. Some spotting can happen though, which I guess can be confusing. If there's blood, definitely check with the doc, especially when you're already carrying a tiny human.

No, you don't actually get proper menses during pregnancy. With my first child, I had some light spotting around the time my period was due, and I freaked out. The doctor explained it wasn't a period. Any bleeding means a call to your gynae, just to be on the safe side.

I totally get why this question comes up, it's so confusing when your body acts differently. While you don't get proper 'menses' during pregnancy, some women do experience light bleeding or spotting. It's usually harmless, but any bleeding should always be checked by your doctor to be safe.

That's a good question! From what I've read, proper menstruation stops during pregnancy. But apparently, some women experience implantation bleeding or other types of spotting, which might be mistaken for a period. It's not the same thing, though. Always best to confirm any bleeding with a doctor.

True menstrual periods do not occur during pregnancy. However, some women may experience light bleeding or spotting in early pregnancy, which is different from a period and should be checked by a doctor.
