Is it normal to throw up blood during pregnancy?

I'm in my first trimester and have had really severe morning sickness. Today, after throwing up, I noticed a tiny bit of blood. I'm very scared. Is it normal to throw up blood during pregnancy if you're vomiting a lot?

Vomiting during pregnancy, especially with morning sickness, is common, but seeing blood is a huge red flag. It's not about diet at this point. You need immediate medical attention. Please call your doctor or go to the hospital. Your health and the baby's health are paramount.

I had a very similar experience in my first trimester. I vomited so much that I saw streaks of blood. I panicked and went to the ER. The doctor said it was due to irritation and small tears in my esophagus from severe retching, but they checked me and the baby thoroughly. Don't wait, get it checked immediately. Even if it's minor, they need to confirm.

Any bleeding during pregnancy, whether spotting or throwing up blood, needs immediate medical attention. My wife's pregnancy app explicitly warns about this. This is not something to monitor or track yourself. Please go to the emergency room or call your OB-GYN right away. Safety first.

This is a serious symptom and has nothing to do with normal pregnancy discomfort. With high BP, any complication can be more risky. You need to see a doctor or go to the hospital immediately. Don't think about it, just go. Your regular checkups should include discussing any such incidents with your doctor.

No, it is definitely not normal to throw up blood during pregnancy. While severe vomiting can sometimes cause minor esophageal tears, leading to streaks of blood (Mallory-Weiss tear), it must always be evaluated by a healthcare professional immediately to rule out more serious causes. My doctor emphasized that any bleeding needs urgent attention.

Please, please do not think this is normal. I once had a bit of blood after throwing up a lot, and I thought it was just irritation. It wasn't during pregnancy, but any blood is a warning sign. Go to the emergency room immediately. It's better to be overly cautious than to regret not getting it checked.
