Is it normal to leak during pregnancy?

I'm in my third trimester, and sometimes I notice a small amount of clear or yellowish fluid on my underwear. My mother-in-law mentioned it could be colostrum, but I'm not sure. Is it normal to leak during pregnancy, and what could it be?

Leaking urine or mild white discharge is quite common as the baby puts pressure on your bladder, but fluid that smells sweet or doesn't stop could be amniotic fluid.

Welcome to pregnancy, where sneezes are dangerous and laughter comes with a side of bladder leaking! It is totally normal to leak a little urine because the baby is literally using your bladder as a trampoline. Just keep some panty liners handy and carry on.

It is very common to have mild leaking because of the baby's weight pressing down, beta. I used to tell my daughter-in-law to wear soft cotton pads, change them often to avoid itching, and do simple pelvic exercises. But keep your doctor informed during your checkups.

During my wife's time, sneezing or coughing always meant minor leaks, and we had to keep a stock of liners everywhere. It's just one of those exhausting things your body goes through. Just make sure it is indeed urine and not something else by getting the doctor to confirm.

I had constant leaking of thin, milky discharge throughout my second trimester, and my doctor told me it's just my body protecting the womb from infections. I just switched to breathable cotton underwear and changed them twice a day. It is completely normal, so don't stress, dear.

My daughter faced severe leaking during her third trimester, and she was terrified it was her water breaking. We went to the clinic, and the nurse showed us how to distinguish between urine and amniotic fluid. Don't worry, wear comfortable cotton liners, and always ask your doctor if you feel any gush of fluid.

Please do not try to guess whether you are leaking urine, discharge, or amniotic fluid. Amniotic fluid loss can compromise your baby's environment, so any watery leaking should be checked by your OB-GYN immediately. Go to the clinic and let them do a quick check for peace of mind.

My gynecologist clearly explained that while increased watery discharge (leukorrhea) or slight urine leaks when sneezing are normal, leaking amniotic fluid is a medical emergency. She told me to do the 'pad test'—if you put on a clean pad and it gets soaked in an hour with clear, odorless fluid, you must go to the hospital immediately.
