Is it normal to have pain years after hernia surgery?

My father had hernia surgery almost five years ago, and he occasionally complains of pain in that region, especially after standing for long. Can pain persist for so long? Is it normal to have pain years after hernia surgery?

Oh god, even reading about pain years later makes me so anxious because I am always worrying about my own old surgical scars. It might just be some deep tissue pulling, but please don't let it stress you out. Just to be safe and calm your mind, maybe get a quick consultation done?

My doctor told me that chronic pain years after hernia surgery is often due to late-stage mesh shrinkage, deep scar tissue tension, or mild nerve irritation. He emphasized that if there is any new swelling, redness, or sharp pain, we must get a scan done to ensure the hernia hasn't recurred.

Dealing with chronic issues can be so tricky, much like my own struggle with hormonal imbalances where things just flare up out of nowhere. I would suggest not jumping to conclusions or searching too much online. Keep a close eye on the pain and consult your surgeon just to rule out any mesh-related friction.

I track all my post-recovery workouts on my fitness app, and I noticed that sudden core exercises can trigger pain in old surgery spots even years later. Try tracking when exactly this pain occurs—like after heavy lifting or long standing. Sharing this pattern with a doctor will make diagnosis much easier.

Please do not ignore this pain thinking it is just an old scar acting up. I ignored a constant dull ache in my abdomen years after a procedure, assuming it was normal, and it turned into a massive issue requiring emergency attention. Go get a professional checkup done right away.

I am actually scheduled for a hernia surgery next month and reading about pain years later makes me a bit nervous. Does this pain happen constantly, or is it only when you lift heavy objects? I hope you feel better soon.

With our busy work schedules, we tend to put off doctor visits, but pain years after surgery is not something to delay. Book a quick weekend appointment with a general surgeon and get it evaluated. It is better to spend two hours at a clinic now than deal with a bigger issue later.

Yes, old scar tissue can occasionally cause discomfort years down the line, but a quick doctor check is always safest.

Bro, my dad had hernia surgery five years back and still gets a sudden pull or ache if he bends awkwardly or does heavy gardening. The doctor told him it's just old scar tissue stretching. But yeah, if it hurts constantly, you should definitely get it checked.

I had severe complications with my hernia mesh migrating years after my initial surgery, which started with a simple dull pain that I brushed off. Please be very cautious with this and do not take it lightly. Go see a senior doctor and get an imaging scan done to make sure everything is in place.

I always visit my hospital's surgical department whenever my old injury spots act up. It is best to directly ask your operating surgeon or a general surgeon for a clear physical exam. Internet forums can't replace a proper clinical check under a good specialist.
