Is it bad to crack your back during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant, and my back has been bothering me a lot. Is it bad to crack my back to get some relief during pregnancy, or could it be harmful to the baby?

Oh god, I totally get why you are worried, every small change in pregnancy used to scare me so much. I also had this habit of twisting to pop my back when the pressure grew. Honestly, please don't do it yourself because your ligaments are already very loose right now. Better to ask your gynae first if you feel too much stiffness.

With long sitting hours during my wife's pregnancy, she also felt like cracking her back constantly for quick relief. But doing it forcefully can cause muscle strains since your body is already adjusting. If the backache is getting unmanageable, just book a quick consult with a prenatal physiotherapist instead of self-treating.

Instead of cracking the bones which can be risky now, try some gentle warm water compress on the lower back. A light massage with warm sesame oil also helps soothe the sore muscles naturally. But if you have any sharp shooting pain or numbness in your legs, please don't ignore it and consult your doctor immediately.

Please be very careful with this. I had severe back issues in my second trimester and my doctor strictly warned me against cracking my spine or letting anyone massage it roughly. It can cause serious alignment issues because your joints are soft right now. Better to get checked by your obstetrician to find safe relief.

Actually, my sister used to do this and her doc told her to stop immediately, yaar. Relaxin hormone makes everything super loose during these months, so self-cracking can easily cause a catch. Better to do simple pregnancy-safe stretches or just use a hot bag.

During both my pregnancies, my back felt like a heavy block and I always wanted to pop it. A little light stretching under guidance is much safer than sudden cracking twists. Try to use a pregnancy pillow for support while sleeping, it really takes the pressure off the spine.
