Is heat or ice better for back pain?

I woke up with a stiff lower back today, probably from sleeping in an awkward position. I have both a heating pad and an ice pack at home. Which is generally better for back pain, heat or ice?

I usually prefer using a heating pad to relax my back muscles after a heavy workout session. But remember, the best cure for back pain is maintaining core strength and walking daily, provided your doctor clears you for it. Keep moving!

I sit at my laptop for 9 hours a day, so back stiffness is a regular thing. Heat wraps work best to get the blood flowing and relieve the ache. Ice is only useful if you actually had a sudden fall or injury.

I get so confused about whether to use heat or ice when my back suddenly locks up. Last time I used ice and it felt even stiffer, has anyone else experienced this? I am always scared of doing the wrong thing.

According to my doctor, ice should be used for the first 48 hours of sudden back pain to reduce swelling and inflammation. After that, you should switch to heat to relax the muscles and increase blood flow. This systematic approach worked perfectly for my recovery.

When my teenage daughter got back pain from carrying a heavy school bag, our pediatrician suggested using a warm heating pad for 15 minutes before bed. It really helped her sleep peacefully. Just make sure the temperature is comfortable, not too hot.

A warm water bottle on the lower back always brings me a lot of comfort when I am sore. I hope your back pain eases up soon. Take care.

Humare ghar mein toh peeth dard ke liye garam kapde se ya garam paani ki thaili se hi sek karte hain. Isse peeth ki jkadki khul jaati hai aur bohot aaram milta hai. Aap bhi garam sek karke dekhein.
