Is heat or cold better for arthritis pain?

My joints ache quite a bit due to arthritis, especially in the mornings. I'm always confused if heat or cold would be better to apply to ease the pain. What's the general advice for arthritis pain?

My elders always suggested a warm sesame oil massage followed by a warm bath for joint stiffness, which feels very comforting. However, my doctor advised using cold gel packs if there is active swelling or heat in the joint. It is wise to follow both traditional comfort and medical advice.

Haan, hot water bag is definitely better for arthritis pain, na? Cold pack se toh joints aur bhi stiff ho jaate hain thand mein. Heat therapy use karo, usse circulation improve hota hai aur bahut relief milta hai.

I got early onset joint issues from a sports injury. Honestly, ice works best for me when the joint is actually inflamed and hot after a workout. Heat is good only when I feel stiff in the mornings, otherwise cold compress is my go-to.

I have dealt with rheumatoid arthritis for over a decade. My advice is to keep both a gel heating pad and an ice pack ready in your fridge. Use heat for 20 minutes in the morning to unlock your joints, and ice in the evening if you have done a lot of walking.

Hey, don't stress too much about choosing between them! Just listen to your body—if your joints feel stiff and cold, use a heating pad. If they feel hot and throbbing, go for a cold pack. You'll figure out what feels best for you very soon.
