Is hair loss recessive or dominant?

My father has significant hair loss, but my mother has a full head of hair. My brother also has thinning hair, and I'm curious about the genetics. Is hair loss considered a recessive or dominant trait?

From what I understand, genetic baldness is a complex trait, but in men, it behaves like a dominant trait due to hormones. However, keeping your lifestyle healthy and managing stress and blood pressure can help you delay its onset.

It is not a simple black-and-white genetic trait. In men, the gene for baldness is dominant, meaning you only need it from one parent to face thinning. In women, it behaves more like a recessive trait, which is why women rarely go completely bald.

It is a complex mix of genetics from both parents. Try not to worry too much about dominant or recessive terms, and just focus on keeping your scalp healthy.

In our family, some brothers lost their hair very early while others kept a full head of hair till old age. Genetics can play tricks, but keeping a calm mind and eating simple, home-cooked food is always in our control.

Hey, don't get too bogged down by the biology terms. Yes, baldness genes are more dominant in men, but with modern treatments, we can manage it very well. Just speak to a good dermatologist and they will guide you.
