Is hair loss from steroids permanent?

A friend of mine was taking steroids for his body building, and now he's really worried about hair loss. He stopped taking them, but his hair is still thinning. Will this hair loss be permanent, or can it grow back?

Hey, take a deep breath. Hair loss from temporary steroid use is usually reversible and things go back to normal once the medication is out of your system. Just give your body some time to recover and don't stress.

In most cases, if the steroid was prescribed for a short-term illness, the hair fall is temporary and will stop. However, if it was long-term abuse or anabolic steroids for gymming, it can accelerate genetic male pattern baldness. Consult a doctor to understand your specific situation.

Before you spend thousands on expensive hair clinics, check if the hair loss stops a few weeks after you finish your steroid course. You can also get a basic liver and hormone panel done at any local lab for under 1000 rupees to see if anything else is off.

Listen, don't stress too much about this. Steroids can mess up our hormones temporarily, but once you stop taking them, the hair shedding usually stops. Just focus on eating healthy for now.

While your body is recovering from the steroids, make sure you are feeding it well. Focus on iron-rich vegetarian foods like spinach, beetroot, and pumpkin seeds to help support your hair regrowth naturally.

I had severe hair thinning after taking high-dose steroids for a medical emergency, and it took a very long time to stabilize. Please don't ignore this or try self-medicating; go to a dermatologist to ensure there's no permanent follicular damage.

It is usually temporary, yaar. Actually, steroids shock the hair cycle into a resting phase, which causes the sudden shedding. Once your body gets back to its normal routine, the hair should start growing again.
