Is hair loss from gabapentin permanent?

My neurologist prescribed gabapentin for my nerve pain a few months ago, and I've noticed a lot more hair falling out since then. My barber even commented on it last week. Will this hair loss stop once I'm done with the medication, or is it a permanent side effect?

I totally panicked when I started losing hair on gabapentin last year. But let me reassure you, it stopped once my doctor slowly tapered off the medication after my treatment ended. My hair has mostly grown back now.

No, it is generally not permanent. The hair usually grows back once the medication is stopped.

I had severe side effects with gabapentin, including major hair thinning and nerve issues. Do not stop the medicine suddenly on your own as that can be dangerous. Discuss this with your neurologist so they can safely suggest an alternative.

My uncle was on this for back pain and faced the same issue. He was super stressed about going bald but his doc told him it's just a temporary side effect. His hair started returning a few months after he finished his course.

I tried everything from onion juice to herbal oils when my hair was falling out due to this medicine, but nothing worked. It is a drug-induced shedding, so home remedies won't stop it. The good news is it usually reverses once you stop the medication under your doctor's guidance.
