Is hair loss during pregnancy normal?

I'm in my second trimester, and I've noticed my hair is falling out more than usual, which is quite concerning. My mother said some hair changes are normal. Is hair loss during pregnancy considered normal?

I had terrible hair fall in my second trimester and was so stressed. My doctor checked my blood reports and found my iron was extremely low. Once I started taking my prescribed iron supplements regularly, the shedding stopped completely.

In my time, we were told that the body undergoes many changes when carrying a baby. Usually hair gets thicker during pregnancy, but if you are facing hair loss now, it might be due to low iron. Don't worry, eat well and it will all settle down after delivery.

Please don't start applying random homemade pastes or oils that people suggest online during pregnancy. Hair loss during this time is not very common and usually indicates a nutritional deficiency. Go directly to your gynecologist and get your blood tested.

My mother-in-law advised applying curry leaves oil, but I spoke to my doctor first. She explained that mild fluctuations can happen, but severe hair loss during pregnancy needs a proper check on thyroid levels. Do consult your doctor before trying anything.

I was researching this because my sister is pregnant and complaining about hair fall. It seems most women actually have great hair during pregnancy, and hair loss only happens if there is some stress, low iron, or if they stopped birth control recently.

Daughter, your body is putting all its energy into growing the baby right now. Eat plenty of amla and green leafy vegetables. Do not use strong chemical products, just use mild coconut oil and take proper rest.

Hair loss during pregnancy isn't the norm; usually it's the opposite because of high estrogen. If you're losing hair now, it's a clear sign your body is lacking some vital nutrients or your hormones are off. Skip the home remedies and get a lab test done immediately.
