Is carb smart ice cream good for diabetics?

My grandson loves ice cream, but he has diabetes, so we have to be careful. We saw 'Carb Smart' ice cream in the supermarket. Is that type of ice cream generally safe and good for diabetics, or should we avoid it?

Honestly, it is fine as an occasional treat, but don't think you can eat it daily. Read the label carefully because many brands use artificial sweeteners that might still cause a slight spike or gut issues.

These packaged 'smart' foods are full of chemicals. It is better to have a small piece of natural fruit or homemade sugar-free kulfi occasionally. If your sugar level is very high, please avoid ice cream completely and consult your doctor.

I manage both high blood pressure and borderline sugar. Instead of relying on packaged diet ice creams, I focus on regular walking and quarterly doctor checkups to keep my levels stable.

Carb smart ice creams contain sugar alcohols which are lower in calories. They are safer than regular ice cream, but eating too much can cause gas or diarrhea. Limit your portion size to one small scoop.

If you really want to enjoy a scoop, plan a brisk 30-minute walk right after. It helps clear the glucose from your blood. Of course, only do this if your physician has cleared you for moderate exercise.

I have been diabetic for six years. I tried these low-carb ice creams, and some of them actually spiked my sugar after two hours. Always test your glucose before and after trying a new food item.
