Is brown sugar better than white sugar for diabetics?

My husband was diagnosed with diabetes recently, and we're cutting down on sweets. I've heard that brown sugar is a healthier alternative. Is brown sugar truly better than white sugar for people with diabetes?

I read so many research papers on this because I was worried about my mom's sugar levels. Honestly, brown sugar is just white sugar with a little molasses, so the glucose spike is identical. Please don't use it thinking it is safer, it could be dangerous!

I am too tired from waking up at 5 AM to explain the chemistry, but basically, brown sugar is just white sugar wearing a fancy jacket. Don't fall for the marketing, it will spike your sugar just the same. Stick to black coffee without sugar like me!

I was diagnosed with borderline diabetes last year and made the mistake of switching to brown sugar thinking it was healthy. My HbA1c actually went up! Once I cut out all sugars entirely, my levels finally came back to normal.

I am new to managing this for my grandfather and thought brown sugar was safe because it looks more natural. Thank you for clearing this up. Is sugar-free stevia a better option for his daily tea then?
