Is armour thyroid better than levothyroxine?

My doctor prescribed Levothyroxine for my hypothyroidism, but a friend who also has thyroid problems swears by Armour Thyroid. She says it's much better. Is Armour Thyroid generally considered better than Levothyroxine for managing thyroid conditions?

It varies from person to person. Some prefer Armour because it has both T3 and T4, while others do better on Levothyroxine.

You really can't say one is universally better. Armour contains both T3 and T4 which can sometimes cause heart palpitations if the dose isn't perfect. Please get your blood thyroid panel checked regularly to be completely safe.

Levothyroxine is the standard synthetic T4, while Armour is natural desiccated thyroid. I've seen gym buddies switch between them to manage fatigue, but keeping your workouts consistent and diet clean plays a huge role in thyroid metabolism too.

Levothyroxine is more stable and highly standardized, which is why most endocrinologists prefer it. Armour Thyroid, being animal-derived, can sometimes have slight batch variations. It is best to let your doctor decide based on your specific T3/T4 levels.

I personally did not feel good on Levothyroxine due to continuous brain fog, so my doctor transitioned me to Armour and I feel much more active now. But everyone's body reacts differently to these hormones.

No matter which medication you take, keeping your physical activity up is key. I've seen people on both medicines find better energy levels once they started regular morning walks and strength training. Ask your doctor which medication suits your lifestyle.

I switched to Armour Thyroid because I was still feeling extremely sluggish on Levothyroxine, and it made a huge difference for me. However, you have to be very diligent with your blood tests every 6-8 weeks to fine-tune the dosage.

Don't jump from one to another just by reading online reviews. Levothyroxine is cheaper and works perfectly fine for most people. If you aren't feeling well, go back to your doctor instead of self-prescribing.
