How to treat asthma cough in child?

My 5-year-old son has asthma, and sometimes he gets a very persistent cough. It breaks my heart to see him struggle. What's the best way to treat an asthma cough in a child?

My own children had chest congestion issues when they were young, and keeping their room humid helped ease their night coughs. But we always made sure to follow the pediatrician's inhaler plan strictly. Children's airways are very delicate, so trust your doctor first.

For a mild night cough, giving them a spoonful of honey (only if they are over one year old) can soothe their throat. However, if the cough is due to asthma, these remedies only provide temporary relief. You must use the nebulizer or inhaler prescribed by their doctor.

My little nephew was just diagnosed with asthma and his cough sounds so painful at night. We are trying to keep his room dust-free, but does a steam inhaler actually help kids, or is it safer to just use the pump every time?

Keeping the child hydrated with warm water helps thin the mucus and calms a dry throat. But please, if you hear a wheezing sound, see their chest pulling in, or if they are too tired to speak, take them to a pediatrician immediately.

We once delayed using our child's preventive inhaler and tried home cough syrups instead, which led to a severe chest infection and emergency hospitalization. Please follow your pediatrician's advice precisely. Asthma cough in children can escalate very quickly.

Asthma cough in kids is so stressful, yaar. We actually use a cool-mist humidifier in our son's room during winters and it really helps stop the dry coughing fits. But of course, the doctor's inhaler is always next to his bed just in case.
