How to tell if baby has a fever?

My 6-month-old baby feels warmer than usual and is a bit fussy. We don't have a baby thermometer handy right now. What are some common signs or ways to tell if a baby has a fever without a thermometer?

When my niece had a fever, her forehead and stomach felt unusually hot to the touch compared to her limbs. She was also super fussy, refused her milk, and just wanted to sleep. Using a digital thermometer under the arm is the best way to be absolutely sure.

Just like we need proper tracking for thyroid issues, we must rely on proper tools for babies too. If the baby feels warm and is breathing faster than usual, please use a digital thermometer to get an accurate reading. Always follow up with your pediatrician for the correct dosage of medicine.

Babies can get warm simply from being wrapped in too many blankets or crying hard. Try dressing them in light clothing, let them rest, and check their temperature with a thermometer after a few minutes. If they are still hot and refuse feeds, consult your pediatrician immediately.

Agree with everyone. A proper digital rectal or underarm thermometer reading is the only accurate way to confirm a baby's fever.

You can usually tell when a baby has a fever because their usual milk-drinking routine goes totally out of the window. They will look flushed, feel very warm on their chest, and show zero interest in their feed. Get a digital thermometer to check, and call the doctor if the temp is high.
